All I have to say is that I'm so glad it's over! I had been having sporadic contractions since 3:30am Monday morning. They were 15 mins, 5 mins, 8 mins then I would go a couple hours without having a single contraction. Tuesday night while I was at dinner with my Aunt & Uncle (who were visiting from California) my contractions were about 10 mins apart. We headed up to the hospital per my mom who was a labor & delivery nurse. Of course my contractions died down & I was only dilated to 3 cm & 70 % effaced. I walked around the hospital for an hour, nothing had changed since the nurse first time checking me, so we decided to go home. Around 2:30am Wednesday my contractions were starting to become more painful & at about 5 mins apart somethings 2 or 3 mins, so we headed up to the hospital. Once again my contractions slowed down, but I was 5 cm dilated & 75 % effaced, enough to be admitted. After the epidural the contractions died off. We slept through the night & in the morning they gave me pitocin which started up my contractions again. I was dilated to 8 cm when Dr Hechtman broke my water. My contractions started to slow down again, so they ended up giving me more pitocin. Around 12:30pm I was fully dilated. My nurse let me "labor down", so I wouldn't have to push for very long & it also helps prevent tearing. Thank you nurse, I pushed 1 1/2 times and she was out, with no tearing.

She is so beautiful!!!! I love the pics of her and Ethan, too sweet!!!! Congrats!!! :)
Ethan is so sweet. He is going to be a great big brother. What does it mean to labor down?
So awesome! Congrats!
Aw, I love the pictures. Especially of Ethan and Sienna. So sweet. She is a little cutie. I'm excited to see her again. You are so lucky you don't have to push very much.
What does "labor down" mean?
This term "Laboring Down" basically refers to the mother's body pressing the baby down into her birth canal without her voluntary effort of pushing. She may be breathing or grunting slightly during contractions but she is simply allowing her body to do the pushing without physically bearing down.
Basically my body did all the work without me putting in any effort.I did have an epidural so, all I could feel was pressure.
Cool. Thanks for explaining. I will have to try that!
(Hi, this is Sarah Peterson)
What a little beauty! Sienna looks great. I have a similar labor pattern, thank goodness for pitocin.
