"No, Ethan I was throwing up." "No, Mommy you were throwing down."
That was only the beginning of a long 3 days. I threw up Saturday morning which seemed pretty normal because I hadn't taken my medication because I felt fine all of Friday. Then it seemed like every time I ate something on Saturday sure enough a couple minutes later, it would come right back up. By 11 pm I had had enough, I had thrown up about 8 times through out the day so I had Jared call the OB. After I got my new prescription, I thought everything would go back to normal. Nope! I was wrong on Sunday I was still throwing up. It wasn't until Monday morning after I had thrown up 3 more times, that I finally had Jared call my OB again to give them an update. They said I should go to the ER. We went to Holy Family, after about 2 1/2 hours of waiting in a completely full waiting room. I had Jared go ask them how much longer. They said there were about 9 other people in front of me waiting to go back first. Jared then talked to his sister Jenn who called Sacred Heart's ER & Deaconess' ER to see what the wait time was. Deaconess was completely open, so we decided to go there. We waited about 20 minutes before I was brought back to a room. The doctor diagnosed me with Hyperemesis Gravidarum which means severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. She said they would give my 3 bags of IV to rehydrate me & also some anti nausea medication. The nurse brought in a doppler to see if we could hear the heart beat. She did warn us that she wasn't very good at it so there is nothing to worry about if she wasn't able to find it. Well she wasn't able to & that just made me worry even more. Later I asked her about getting an ultra sound. She said something about the doctor not thinking it was necessary. Jared hadn't eaten all day so I told him to go eat something, since I was just lying in bed getting pumped up with fluids. About 5 minutes later my nurse returned with an ultra sound machine & asked, if I would like to be a guinea pig so that one of the doctors could try out their brand new machine. I said "of course!" I couldn't believe how much the baby was moving around. They said every thing looked good & that it sure was an active little thing. About 2 minutes after they had finished Jared came back. I showed him the picture they gave me from the ultrasound. He was totally bummed that he missed getting to see the baby. After the 3rd IV bag, the nurse asked if I had the urge to go pee. I didn't so they decided to give me another bag. After the 4 bag I did feel like I had to go but it was hardly anything. I was finally feeling better but a little loopy from the medication they gave me so they sent me on my way. I'm so happy that it's all over & that I'm feeling a little bit better. I'm especially excited that I got to see the baby moving around like crazy! Oh the things women do for their children!!!
